Also known as Pastitsio in Greek. It is a baked pasta dish with ground meat and bechamel sauce found in Greece, Cypriot, Egyptian and Maltese cuisine.
It is an evolved dish that has many different variations such as use of filo pastry and penne pasta or Halloumi Cheese and Rumi Cheese.

Ingredients:
For the Beef:
2 tbsp olive oil
500 grams Ground Beef
1 medium Onion
3 cloves of Garlic
3/4 cup Tomato Sauce
1 tbsp Tomato Paste
1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder
1/8 tsp Nutmeg
Salt and Pepper
1 tsp Cumin powder
1 tsp White pepper powder
1 tsp Onion powder
Method:
Saute Garlic and onions until caramelized. Soften the Tomatoes. Add in the tomato sauce and paste. let it simmer for about 10 mins on low flame. Add in the dry ingredients. mix well.
Add the Mince Beef and mix well. let it cook for 20 mins until color darkened.

For the Pasta:
500 grams Whole wheat pasta
2 tbsp Oil
Water
Salt
Method:
Boil the water with salt and oil. Once boiling, add in the pasta. Cook 70%. Strain drizzle some oil, mix well.

For the Bechamel Sauce:
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 cup Flour
4 cups Milk
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/8 tsp clove powder
Cheese
Salt and Pepper
Method:
Melt the butter in a pan. Add in the flour and mix well. Dont let it brown. Add in the milk and with a whisk keeping stirring. Add in the cheese and whisking until desired thick consistency. Add in the nutmeg and clove powder. As per taste add the salt and pepper.

After you layer all the elements together.
Bake in a preheated oven @180 degree Celsius for 35-40 mins. Until the top is browned.
Serve with any extra bechamel or sauce of your choice.
