Lincoln’s newest Greek restaurant is finally open and, after visiting Greek islands in the past, I was eager to see whether the restaurant actually does give diners a genuine flavour of authentic cuisine from the island nation.
Greek 2 Me opened earlier this year at Burton Waters, Lincoln, and owners have previously revealed five of the chefs working at the restaurant were born and raised in Greece.
So my expectations were high.
On walking in to the restaurant I noticed there was a great atmosphere – staff were incredibly friendly and greeted us straight away.
We were then taken to our table.
To start with we ordered some bread and dips and decided to share some garlic mushrooms.
Both were of a decent size.
The pitta bread arrived with tzatziki and taramasalata, along with a salad.
The tzatziki was delicious – you could tell it was homemade as there were large chunks of ingredients and it was packed with flavour.
Being vegetarian I couldn’t eat the taramasalata, because it contains fish, but when I mentioned that to the waitress she brought me a pot of hummus over at no extra cost, which was fantastic service and a lovely touch.
The garlic mushrooms were delicious too and were served in an olive oil dressing that accompanied the pitta bread perfectly.
For mains I went for a vegetarian mousaka and my dining partner chose soutzoukakia – mince meat rolls in a spicy tomato sauce served with pilau rice and chips.
The food was piping hot and I had to wait for it to cool a little before eating the moussaka.
Again this dish lived up to my expectations with chunky ingredients and it definitely had a home made feel about it.
The dish also came with a Greek salad on the side made up of feta cheese, mixed leaves and peppers.
My dining partner enjoyed their meal too – and added the dish was authentic and full of flavour. Perfect for anyone who loves spicy food.
After finishing our meals we were both too full for dessert so we asked for the bill.
As the waitress brought it over she also gave us two toffee vodka shots while saying “yamas”.
I have to say I cannot fault this restaurant and will definitely be going back.
The portions are a very decent size, all the food tastes home made and the staff have the perfect attitude.
The restaurant is also great for both vegetarians and meat eaters with a range of meat free options but also ones that contain a considerable amount of meat.
